Repatriation of deceased person
In the event of death of a Zimbabwean national living in the People’s Republic of China, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Islamic Republic of Pakistan and Mongolia, the Embassy will facilitate the issuance of the relevant documents from these countries and in Zimbabwe. These are the steps that should be undertaken in the wake of death of a Zimbabwean national in the P.R. China:
- Notify the local police station (if the deceased was not in hospital).
- Contact the Embassy and provide details of the next of kin, if available.
- If family decides to repatriate the remains/ashes (cremation) of the deceased to Zimbabwe, they need to -prepare an affidavit signed by the deceased’s biological parents/next of kin conveying their decision (copy of national identity card should be attached).
- The family should also prepare a signed affidavit appointing a person/agent/Chinese funeral parlour to process and sign all the necessary documents in China on their behalf.
*All affidavits should be notarized at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
- The following documents should be submitted to the Embassy for application of repatriation certificate from the Civil Registry Department and the Ministry of Health and Child Care in Zimbabwe: Bilingual Embalming certificate, Bilingual Coffin Certificate, Bilingual Quarantine Certificate, Bilingual Non-infectious Disease Certificate, Bilingual Death Certificate and copy of the deceased passport. Please note that the family should appoint a local funeral parlour in Zimbabwe in order to receive and process these documents.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: ALL COSTS RELATED TO THE ENTIRE REPATRIATION PROCESS SHOULD BE BORNE BY THE FAMILY OF THE DECEASED PERSON.
